Rita Crews

Rita Crews is a distinguished leader in community engagement in Baltimore's Belair-Edison area, serving as the president of the Belair-Edison Community Association in the 45th Legislative District. Born and raised in Badin, North Carolina, Rita's commitment to activism and involvement was influenced early on by her grandparents, who were pillars of their community. This foundation has fueled her dedication to enhancing the lives of her neighbors in Belair-Edison.

Rita's academic journey took her to Morgan State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1976. She furthered her education with a Master of Education in Supervision and Administration from Loyola College. Her professional career spans four decades with the Baltimore City Public School System, where she progressed from teacher to principal, exemplifying her versatility and commitment to educational excellence. She retired in July 2016, leaving a legacy of positively impacted and inspired individuals.

One of Rita's notable achievements in community leadership includes spearheading the creation of a playground at Shannon Drive and Brehms Lane in 2016, providing local families and children with a valuable recreational resource. This project, among many others, showcases her ability to unite communities and drive meaningful improvements. Rita is also an active member of the Psi Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the DPW Residential Advisory Council, and the Civic Works’ Board. Having resided in Belair-Edison for over three decades, she remains a vital force in keeping Baltimore vibrant and cohesive.

Rita is the proud mother of A. Brandon Crews, mother-in-law to Patrice Crews, and grandmother to Tyler Crews. Her ongoing commitment to community service and leadership continues to inspire and uplift those around her.
